Who Qualifies for the DTV

The DTV was designed to bring long-stay remote workers and cultural participants to Thailand without the rigidity of Non-B or the price tag of LTR/Elite. Two qualifying tracks, one visa outcome.

The Workcation Dossier — What Actually Gets You Approved

The workcation track is the most common but also the most refused when applicants file solo. Consular officers look for three coherent signals: a real foreign employer or client base, a professional footprint online, and liquidity that shows you won't become a burden on Thailand.

We build the dossier around those three pillars: employer letter with wet signature and stamp (or 3+ freelance contracts totalling 12 months of income), LinkedIn / company website screenshots dated within 30 days, and a THB 500k bank statement with 3-month transaction history. The Soft Power Dossier — Muay Thai, Cooking, Medical

Soft Power applications are approved on the strength of the host institution. A generic language school will fail; a Ministry-registered Muay Thai gym with WMC affiliation and enrollment fee receipt will pass.

Filing Channels by Nationality — Where the DTV Actually Gets Approved Fastest

The DTV can be filed through the Thai e-Visa portal (thaievisa.go.th) or at any Thai Embassy/Consulate abroad. Approval speed and refusal rates vary dramatically by channel.

• Fastest e-Visa channels: Vientiane (Laos) — 5-7 days, Kuala Lumpur — 7-10 days, Penang — 10-14 days
• US/UK/EU citizens: File from home country e-Visa — 15-20 days, or fly to KL/Vientiane for faster turnaround
• Russian/CIS citizens: Vientiane and Yerevan (Armenia) most reliable since 2024
• Chinese citizens: Beijing/Shanghai e-Visa — additional financial scrutiny, we recommend bank certified letter
• In-Thailand conversion: NOT available — DTV must be applied for from outside Thailand

Extension, Re-Entry, and Common Pitfalls

The DTV allows one 180-day extension per entry at any Thai Immigration office (THB 10,000 fee). After 360 days, you must exit and re-enter — a same-day border run to Ranong or a flight to Penang resets the clock. The 5-year multi-entry validity means no new visa application is needed until year 6.

Common pitfalls that void the visa: overstaying the 180-day permit (immediate cancellation + blacklist risk), forgetting TM.30 registration within 24 hours of arrival, using the DTV to work for a Thai employer (this requires Non-B + Work Permit).
