The 3 Retirement Tracks — Choose Once, Renew Yearly
The retirement visa is not one product — it is three products with very different documents, costs and renewal rules. Pick wrong and you either overpay for insurance you don't need or under-plan for insurance you do.
- Non-O (in-country): Enter on Tourist / DTV / Visa Exempt, convert to Non-O at Phuket Immigration, then apply for 1-year Extension. Cheapest, no mandatory insurance.
- O-A (embassy): Applied at a Thai embassy abroad before travel. 1-year multi-entry, requires Thai-recognised inpatient insurance (USD 100k) for the full duration.
- O-X (embassy): 10 nationalities eligible (Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA, Canada). 10-year visa, THB 3M deposit or 1.8M + 1.2M income.
- LTR-Wealthy Pensioner: Not called 'retirement' but is often the correct answer — 10 years, no 90-day report, tax benefits. Requires USD 80k passive income OR USD 40k + USD 250k Thai investment.
