Power of attorney signed in Thailand for use in Australia

Australia keeps two systems apart: legalisation (DFAT Apostille for Australian documents) and translation, where Thai-language documents filed with Australian bodies normally need a NAATI-certified translation.

Steps in the chain3 steps, excluding the queue at the receiving body

The certification chain step by step

  1. Check the relevant state's form — powers of attorney are state law in NSW, VIC, QLD and so on.
  2. Sign before a certifier that state accepts, with the prescribed witnesses.
  3. Thai-language documents need a NAATI translation bearing the stamp and CPN.

Common use cases

Before you start

  1. Do not confuse a NAATI translation with Thai MFA translation certification — they are not interchangeable.
  2. An enduring power of attorney must use that state's prescribed form.

Cautions and common rejection causes

We pre-check files to reduce the chance of rejection; the receiving authority alone decides acceptance.
