Notarising Thai Documents for United Kingdom — Attorney, MFA and Embassy

Notarisation by a Thai Notarial Services Attorney → translation into the required language (where needed) → legalisation by the MFA Legalisation Division (Chaeng Watthana) → attestation at that country's embassy or consulate in Thailand.

United Kingdom is already a party to the 1961 Apostille Convention. Thailand deposited its instrument of accession on 30 June 2026 and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, after an eight-month objection period. Until then, Thai documents still require MFA legalisation followed by embassy attestation (sources: hcch.net and the Thai Department of Consular Affairs).

From 28 February 2027, when the Apostille Convention enters into force for Thailand, Thai public documents used in this country will need only a single Apostille from the Thai competent authority — no further embassy attestation. Translation requirements set by the receiving body still apply.

Documents must be in English. Thai originals need a certified English translation carrying a statement that it is a true and complete translation, plus the translator's name, date and contact details.

A Statutory Declaration must use the wording under the Statutory Declarations Act 1835; non-standard wording is routinely rejected. · A Life Certificate must be completed on the form DWP sent you, not a self-printed copy. · Some UK bodies require the attestor's registration number to be stated explicitly.
