DTV — Destination Thailand Visa (launched July 2024)

The newest of the three, designed to compete with Bali's Second Home Visa and Portugal's D7. The DTV is a 5-year multi-entry visa stamped in your passport at any Royal Thai Embassy or e-visa portal. Each entry permits up to 180 days, extendable once for another 180 days inside Thailand, for a maximum of 360 days per entry. You then have to leave Thailand and re-enter to reset the clock.

Four eligibility tracks: (1) Workation — remote employee or freelancer with an employment contract or freelance evidence, (2) Soft Power Activities — Muay Thai training, Thai cooking school, MICE, music festivals, (3) Thai Medical Treatment, (4) Family of an eligible primary applicant.

LTR — Long-Term Resident Visa (launched September 2022)

Issued by the Board of Investment (BOI), the LTR is a 10-year visa (issued as 5 + 5) with the best tax treatment of any Thai visa: a 17% flat income tax for the Highly Skilled Professional category, and tax exemption on foreign-source income for the other three categories. The LTR also bundles a free 5-year work permit, exit/re-entry waiver, fast-track immigration at major airports, and 1-year reporting (vs 90-day for other long-stay visas).

Four eligibility tracks: (1) Wealthy Global Citizen — USD 1M assets + USD 80k/year income, (2) Wealthy Pensioner — 50+ years old + USD 80k/year passive income, (3) Work-from-Thailand Professional — USD 80k/year for 2 years working remotely for a foreign employer with USD 50M+ revenue, (4) Highly Skilled Professional — USD 80k/year in a BOI-targeted sector.

Thailand Privilege (formerly Elite Visa, rebranded 2023)

Operated by Thailand Privilege Card Company Limited, a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Tourism. This is a paid-for visa with no income or asset disclosure requirement — you pay the fee, you get the visa, end of due diligence. Five tiers in 2026: Gold (5 years, THB 900,000), Platinum (10 years, THB 1,500,000), Diamond (15 years, THB 2,500,000), Reserve (20 years, THB 5,000,000, invitation only).

Bundled benefits beyond the visa include airport limousine, fast-track immigration, golf and spa privileges, government liaison officer (for re-entry permits and 90-day reporting handled on your behalf), and complimentary annual health checks. No work permit and no special tax status — Thailand Privilege holders are taxed like any other Thai resident based on the 180-day rule.
